Jillan Valpy: Rubber, Metal and Public Installations
My work is a material based practice where I play with the binary context of the masculine and feminine of materiality. My contemporary industrial structures feature rubber and metal that incorporate a variety of other petroleum and industrial based media. The reuse of vast amounts of rubber alludes to the gluttonous waste of the oil industry and pokes fun at the absurdity and abundance of this rubber waste. Interestingly, reprocessed rubber is very textile like and funny in a comical sense.
Rainbow Rubber 3D Painting
Multi Coloured Rubber Inner Tube Strips. Walking through the "Rubber Rainbow" this is the Balcony Gallery installation CONVENTIONAL WISDOM at Xchanges, August 2010. A sea of hanging rubber, 3D paintings and interactive sculpture lures the viewer into a fantasy world of an unexpected rubber environment.
